Study Tour | MIYASHITA PARK: Transformation through Urban Renewal
Category
Placemaking
Previously a public park located along the Yamanote line, the revitalised MIYASHITA PARK is now home to a shopping mall, a variety of restaurants and cafes, as well as a hotel. In its overhaul, it was reimagined as a multi-dimensional facility with something to suit everyone. The highlight is its spacious green rooftop park, complete with skate park, a bouldering wall, a sand-covered court perfect for beach volleyball, and an open lawn area. The park is a shining example of enhancing public land utilisation and successful placemaking of public space through urban renewal in a new era that resonates with the younger demographic, offering a welcoming environment for social and cultural interaction and community engagement.
