As the Regional Managing Principal for Greater China, Xiaomei leads Gensler’s growth and development in the region, spearheading the best in design excellence strategies across the firm’s diverse practice areas. With 30 years of architectural and design experience, she has directed many prominent projects, often on a complex scale, spanning urban design and master planning, tall building architecture, renewal and repositioning, mixed use, retail, hospitality, education, health and wellness, art and culture and most recently sports. Notable in this portfolio is Xiaomei’s leadership in delivering China’s tallest building, a landmark on the city’s skyline today, the renowned and highly awarded 632-meter-high Shanghai Tower. Throughout her career, her client-centric approach and deep understanding of local context, paired with broad knowledge of international standards of delivery has been instrumental in the growth of our Greater China practice, and in shaping the Shanghai hub office as a design innovation center. In recognition of her strategic business leadership, Xiaomei serves on the Gensler Board of Directors and Global Management Committee and is actively involved in advancing Gensler’s Tall Building practice. Industry accolades have also followed her. In 2020 Xiaomei was appointed a Global Governing Trustee for the Urban Land Institute (ULI). She is an active member of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) and was a juror at their CTBUH 2019 Tall + Urban Innovation Global Awards. Xiaomei is the Vice Chairwoman of the Committee on High-rise Habitat Environment of the Architectural Society of China. Xiaomei is highly regarded in the industry as an innovative leader in her own right and continues to be a popular keynote speaker and panelist.
