Tom Cartledge joined Benoy in 2014 and two years later was appointed to the role of CEO at the age of 35. Before his time at Benoy, Tom led a successful career in commercial property with roles in London as an agent, development advisor and latterly a board member and group property director of a US retail business.
Tom has steered the evolution and restructuring of Benoy from a design business ‘run as a family’ to one ‘owned by a family’, putting into place the structures, people and processes necessary to build upon the company’s incredible 70-year journey. Part of this evolution was the establishment of a new parent company Handley House and the acquisition of award-winning graphics firm Holmes Wood as a sister business to Benoy. Together, these two complementary design firms widen and strengthen the creative offer available to the group’s global client base.
Under Tom’s direction, Benoy has also actively explored new sectors, diversified its revenue streams and bolstered the import-export of design excellence across its international network. Most significantly, Tom has overseen an award-winning employee engagement programme bringing to life the Benoy brand, the launch of a new global operating platform and the opening of the firm’s first studio in the USA.
As well as leading the global team, Tom works alongside prominent developers such as Heathrow, Lipton Rogers and Westfield to ensure Benoy’s clients not only experience world-class design but also solutions which are embedded in commercial reality.
