Dr. Meyer zu Brickwedde came to Japan in 1993, after training as a banker and studying law in Germany with a doctoral thesis, to and initially worked in various management positions within HypoVereinsbank Group.
In January 2004, he joined Hypo Real Estate Group to develop their business in Japan as the President & CEO of Hypo Real Estate Capital Japan Corporation. In early 2005, he was mandated to set up the group’s Asian network, which besides Japan was to cover China, India and Singapore and was set up in December 2006.
With the establishment of Kenzo Capital Corporation in 2008, the company’s founder, Dr. Meyer zu Brickwedde, created a competence centre for real estate investment in Japan for German/ European investors.
From 2009, after receiving all the necessary regulatory licenses, until 2015, the Kenzo team focused on advising large institutional investors on investments, real estate management and sales. In 2016, the decision was made to build the Kenzo Japan Residential Fund, a German open-ended special fund (Spezialfonds) for institutional investors that would invest in residential real estate in the metropolises of Japan and which was launched in July 2017. The fund rapidly expanded its business based on successful placement with investors attracted by the growth and quality of attractive real estate investments. Since its inception, the company had weathered the aftermath of the 2008/09 financial crisis and the tremors of the severe Tohoku earthquake in 2011. In November 2019, Kenzo Capital Corporation sold and transferred the business to the newly founded Patrizia Japan KK, a subsidiary of Patrizia AG, which has thus entered the Japanese real estate market.
Dr. Meyer zu Brickwedde and Kenzo will dynamically continue the evolutionary path that began with the consulting business and reached a preliminary climax in before merger of the business.
The company continues its development as an investment company in Japan and will further support Japanese investors who want invest in Europe. The company will shortly be demonstrating this next stage of development with its new name. In his involvement in the cross-border investment business, Dr. Meyer zu Brickwedde can rely on a proven network of close professional business partners both in Japan and in Germany/Europe.
