Study Tour | Skyline Stories: A Tour of Hong Kong’s Architectural Icons

We invite you to join us for a unique walking tour through the vibrant city of Hong Kong. Known for its compact layout and ambitious spirit, this bustling metropolis boasts an extraordinary array of architectural gems.

In Central, you'll encounter both heritage buildings from the colonial era and impressive contemporary structures designed by renowned architects such as Foster and Partners, Zaha Hadid Architects, and I.M. Pei. These architectural wonders are supported by visionary landlords who have helped shape the city’s skyline.

This curated tour will guide you through some of the most iconic structures that define Hong Kong’s urban landscape. Along the way, you'll gain insight into the fascinating interplay between historical and modern developments. We will explore how these sites have become symbols of the economy and political landscape since the early days of colonial rule, reflecting the city's evolution and resilience.

Study Tour | Exploring Central’s Smart Cultural Precinct

Central is Hong Kong’s frenetic business and retail heart, crammed with skyscrapers, swanky malls and luxury hotels set within a historic district. The rich cultural heritage in Central sets the stage for the Smart Cultural Precinct (SCP), ISU’s local initiative that highlights the area within and surrounding the Cultural Triangle, formed by the three key adaptive re-use buildings of PMQ, Central Market, and Tai Kwun.

Join us in an immersive experience of Central Market and Tai Kwun, two of the key historic developments of the Cultural Precinct, that have been beautifully restored and revitalized for a new generation of visitors.

1. Central Market:

Formerly one of Hong Kong’s first wet markets, Central Market is a Grade III historic building that has been revitalised into a ‘Playground for All’ by offering dining outlets, retail stores and cultural experiences that connect visitors to the neighbourhood’s history, tradition and contemporary culture.

2. Central-Mid-Levels Escalators:

The Central–Mid-Levels escalator and walkway system in Hong Kong is the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world. It is a unique pedestrian link, that provides a great view of the bustling city and also was instrumental in the organic regeneration of the core of Central.

3. Tai Kwun:

Tai Kwun is Hong Kong’s beating cultural heart, enabled by The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) in partnership with the Hong Kong Government. A vibrant and welcoming space that brings people together, Tai Kwun is committed to inspiring and enriching the community through arts, culture and heritage.

End the tour in style with a visit to The Magistracy at Tai Kwun: Once known as Hong Kong’s Supreme Court, The Central Magistracy was decommissioned and ceased its judiciary functions in 1984. After being dormant for 40+ years, Black Sheep Restaurants have restored it into a vibrant destination for warm hospitality and thoughtful storytelling. The Black Sheep team will share their insights into the achievements and challenges of this restoration process.

Study Tour | Tracks of Transformation: A Tram Tour on Urban Mobility & Development

The specially curated tram tour is organized exclusively for the Urban Land Institute.

Our 2-hour journey begins at the historic Tram Depot, the heart of iconic "Made-in-HK" tram system. Aboard an antique open-top tram, we will explore how this unique network has played a vital role in shaping Hong Kong’s urban landscape. As we travel towards Causeway Bay, we will examine the integration of the tram system into the city’s development, its enduring connection to vibrant communities, and its ability to adapt and thrive in an ever-evolving urban environment.

More than a ride through the city’s streets, this tour offers an opportunity to exchange ideas about the future of transportation and urban development. It is a chance to share insights, foster meaningful connections, and discuss how collaboration can drive innovative solutions for the challenges of urban mobility across the APAC region.
